Russian Virologists Believe Most Dangerous Form Of Bio Weapons Are Smallpox Bacteria

Of all the types of biological weapons, the most dangerous for mass population destruction is the natural smallpox bacteria. The Russian Academy of Sciences academic Lev Sandakhchiev disclosed this at a round table meeting of "Scientists against Biological Weapons". Lev Sandakhchiev is the General Director of the Scientific Centre of Virology and Biotechnology "VEKTOR". The smallpox bacteria can be stored for up to 200 years, while 30% of those infected will die from it. At present in the world only in Russia and USA can a unique collection of smallpox strains be found, which would allow fundamental research to be carried out on this disease, the academic said. One of the nation's security measures, the academic believes, is a return to smallpox vaccinations for those people at risk from this disease. According to him, in connection with the dangers of bio terrorism, in the USA smallpox vaccinations have already begun for the armed forces. In Russia the vaccine has never stopped being produced and it is no worse than the American. "In case of danger, the population of Russia has nothing to be frightened of, vaccinations are guaranteed," the academic stressed.
