A fire emerged on November 7 on board the Russian research vessel "Marine Geophysic," which was 13 km. away from the western coast of the Japanese island of Hokkaido. The vessel was sailing from the Japanese port of Otaru to Russia. The fire emerged in one of the vessel's laboratories. Its cause has not yet been identified. Japanese marine rescuers came to the help of the Russian vessel. They evacuated a part of the crew and towed the vessel back to the port of Otaru. With the help of coastal installation, the fire was localised. The four members of the crew who slightly suffered from carbon monoxide poisoning were taken to the local hospital.
