Personnel of the international Stabilization Force, or SFOR, in Bosnia have reported seizing huge amounts of weaponry and ammunition from local civilians in the past ten months. An SFOR spokesman in Sarajevo has announced that 3,040 items of small arms, 12,600 hand grenades, 8,000 mortar shells, 3,655 landmines, and hundreds of thousands of gun cartridges have been seized over the period. This arsenal is part of the legacy of the devastating civil war in the country in 1992-1995. SFOR has coordinated with the Bosnian army, police, and local authorities in the effort to seize the guns.
