The issues dealing with preparations for the visit of the Canadian premier Jean Chretien to Russia were discussed in New York at the meeting of the heads of the foreign policy agencies of Russia and Canada Igor Ivanov and John Manley. This was disclosed to journalists by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Alexander Yakovenko. Also discussed were issues of struggle against terrorism, the situation in Afghanistan, as well as problems of strategic stability, Yakovenko said. Touching upon the theme of international terrorism, the heads of the foreign policy agencies of the two countries stressed that the UN should play the key role in combatting this evil.
