Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov has met with British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw to discuss pressing international issues, including the situation around Afghanistan, in the Middle East, and in the Persian Gulf. The Russian Foreign Ministry's Information and Press Department announced the two men met yesterday, November 10, in New York City. The meeting was part of the 56th United Nations General Assembly Session. Russian diplomatic sources disclosed that "a candid exchange of views in the spirit of partnership took place". Apart from that, Ivanov and Straw looked into issues of "coordinating multilateral efforts to fight international terrorism." According to the Russian foreign ministry, the two men focused on Russia's relationship with NATO and the European Union, as well as on prospects for development of British-Russian cooperation in various fields.
