Russia and Pakistan stand together on the future of Afghanistan. According to the Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Yakovenko, this issue was discussed during the meeting between Russian and Pakistani Foreign Ministers Igor Ivanov and Abdul Sattar in New York. According to Yakovenko, the parties stressed the necessity to combat all forms of terrorism. Ivanov also said it was crucial that the government of Afghanistan comprise representatives of all ethnic groups, have international support, and be oriented at combating terrorism. Besides, the need to deliver humanitarian aid to Afghanistan (mostly, under the UN aegis) was accentuated.
