The al-Jazeera TV station in Qatar has reported that advanced units of the Northern Alliance are now in a 25-kilometre vicinity to the Afghan capital. The station reports that artillery volley is heard in Kabul, while the Taliban have retreated from a number of their positions. B-52 bombers were reported to deliver 20-minute fire on the Taliban positions north of Kabul and near the Bagram Air Base. The Northern Alliance troops supported by the US aviation are reportedly advancing to Kabul. The TV station also reported that in the morning the Northern Alliance forces seized the town of Herat in western Afghanistan and the town of Kunduz, the centre of the Kunduz province in the country's northeast.
