Belarussian Foreign Minister Mikhail Khostov Calls For Preserving The ABM Treaty

Belarussian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mikhail Khostov called the ABM Treaty of 1972 "a critically important component in maintaining strategic stability" in the world. A RIA Novosti correspondent reports that speaking during the general political discussions at the 56th session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Belarussian minister said that "the decades of tense negotiations in the name of working out a compromise, which has saved the world from a direct nuclear danger, must not be made null and void." Strategic stability is a practicable imperative for all and every state without exclusion, underscored the Belarussian Minister of Foreign Affairs. In his opinion, "the negotiations on this important subject must he held on a multilateral, non-bloc basis with the participation of all interested sides and in strict conformity with the provisions of the Charter of the United Nations."
