Foreign ministers of permanent member states of the United Nations Security Council held a traditional annual meeting in New York as part of the 56th session of the UN General Assembly. The meeting was chaired by UN Secretary General Kofi Annan. The discussion focused on sharp aggravation of the terrorist threat and practical measures to jointly neutralize this threat under the UN aegis. Participants in the meeting pointed out that Security Council resolutions Nos. 1368 and 1373 can serve as a solid political and legal base for the anti-terrorist campaign and must be strictly observed, and emphasized the importance of consolidating the leading role of the UN in political settlement of the Afghan conflict.
