In case of the detention of one of the leaders of the Chechen separatists, Ruslan Gelayev, the Georgian law enforcement bodies must give him over to Russia. This opinion was expressed at a news conference by Speaker of the Georgian parliament Nino Burdzhanadze. According to her, if Moscow "has presented all the necessary documents for extraditing Gelayev, the Georgian law enforcement bodies should take steps to meet their Russian colleagues." At the same time Nino Burdzhanadze said that she did not have any information about the whereabouts of Gelayev, and she was not able either to confirm or refute that this terrorist was in the territory of Georgia.
