The Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, General Anatoly Kvashnin, believes the new strategic situation that has formed in the world may "to a certain extent" contribute to a qualitative development of Russia-NATO relations. Kvashnin was speaking upon arrival in Brussels on Tuesday. On Wednesday the Chief of the Russian General Staff will attend the session of the Russia-NATO Joint Permanent Committee and the Military Committee of the Euro-Atlantic Partnership. Kvashnin stressed that Russia-NATO relations were now more obviously showing a transition from theoretic developments to practical cooperation. This, the General says, in particular concerns solutions to problems related to international security measures, the fight against terrorism and such a principal sphere as strategic stability.
