During his meeting with Kalman Mizsei, aide to the UN Secretary General, Tajik President Emomali Rakhmonov urged the UN to step up its activities in order to achieve a complete political settlement in Afghanistan. The Tajik president said that the UN had enough influence and versatility to unite the international community to respond to terrorism on the basis of the international law." The UN representative stated, in his turn, that "Tajikistan played a crucial role in regional cooperation issues, especially in solving the humanitarian problems in Afghanistan." Mizsei also said that the UN would allocate $16 million to Tajikistan to restore and develop local self-governance.
