Russian border-guards will keep on rendering assistance to international organisations delivering humanitarian cargoes to Afghan refugees on the islands of the border river of Panj. The press service of Russian border-guards in Tajikistan reported to RIA Novosti on Thursday that such a statement was made by the chief of the Russian group of border-guards in Tajikistan, Lieutenant-General Alexander Markin, at a meeting with the head of the Tajik office of the Department of UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Nikolos Koussidis. The UN official informed the Russian side of the fact that Afghan refugees were afraid to return to places of permanent residence in the province of Kunduz until the military operations stop in northern Afghanistan. In regard to this, the Department of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees intends to resume humanitarian deliveries to Afghani people in the zone of the islands of the Panj through Tajikistan.
