NATO Secretary-General George Robertson is convinced that deepening cooperation between Russia and the North Atlantic Alliance is absolutely necessary. "We need to discuss all topics openly and deepen cooperation between Russia and NATO," the secretary-general announced after a Friday meeting with the secretary of Russia's Security Council Vladimir Rushailo in the Kremlin. According to his words, it is necessary to examine the possibility of creating new mechanisms for this cooperation. Pointing out that both Russia and NATO countries are facing a global terrorist threat, Robertson said the point at issue was "whether Russia and NATO manage to reach a level which will enable them to meet this global challenge, put an end to terrorism and solve other issues."
