Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze said that he was duty bound to take part in the coming summit of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). At the same time, speaking on the national radio, he said that he did not "expect the solution of all the problems from the coming summit." Eduard Shevardnadze stated about his categoric disagreement with the calls by a number of Georgian politicians to leave the CIS. "Georgia's participation in the CIS has not yet lost sense and prospects," said he. Both historically and economically Georgia is connected in many respects with the countries that have united into the CIS.
