The United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) Police has arrested a former commander of the self-styled Kosovo Liberation Army, identified as Gania Imeria, said UNMIK Police spokesman Frederic Bayard. Bayard went on to say that Imeria is being held over his alleged role in the violent ethnic strife in 1998-1999 in then-Autonomous Province of Kosovo within the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. The man was brought into the UNMIK Police Criminal Investigation Department headquarters for questioning. He was then remanded to a detention center. Bayard said the detainee was one of the leading figures in the so-called Kosovo Protection Force, a paramilitary organization officially responsible for emergency relief, and may have run the organization's chapter in the Vucitri opstina, or district. He may now be facing trial.
