Germany will deploy in Afghanistan the total of 1,500 servicemen, German military attache Colonel Herbert Danzer was quoted as saying. In addition, he said a 70-strong advanced unit of Bundeswehr was on the way to Afghanistan, but bad weather conditions delayed its arrival in Kabul. Another 250 German soldiers are expected to arrive in the Afghan capital in a week. The strength of the German contingent in Afghanistan will be 1,500 men. Germany plans to deploy there air borne, mechanised infantry and engineer units, as well as military doctors. They will be stationed in the Northern part of Kabul, Danzer stated. "German servicemen will not participate in military operations in Afghanistan, this condition was forwarded by the German political leadership before the country's military command," the Attache emphasised.
