A church will be built on the Antarctic continent near the Russian station Bellingsgauzen. Its design was made by Altai architects (the Altai Territory is situated in the south of Siberia). As the press service of the Territorial administration reported, the competition for the best design was held by the Church in Antarctica fund. The "church made of Siberian cedar and larch" by Altai architect Svetlana Rybak emerged victorious in the competition. This design was approved by Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexis II. The idea of setting up such a church belongs to Russian polar explorers. In this way they want to perpetuate the memory of their countrymen who perished during the fifty years of the exploration of the Antarctic continent.
