A convoy of lorries carrying Russian humanitarian aid is heading from Dushanbe to Kabul. According to the Emergencies Ministry, it will be the first humanitarian convoy to pass through the restored tunnel of the Salang Pass. The 23 lorries of the convoy carrying about 100 tons of foods, clothes and medicines will cover over 580 km. They are expected to reach the Salang Pass on January 19 when the ceremony of reopening the tunnel will be held. Specialists of the Russian Emergencies Ministry and Afghan construction workers restored the southern part of the tunnel, while the northern part was the responsibility of French teams. The road via Salang is the best route linking the northern part of Afghanistan and the rest of the country.
