"Lithuania's chairmanship in the Council of Europe will consolidate the role of this organisation in the European affairs," Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov said after the talks with his Lithuanian counterpart Antanas Valionis, the chairman of the committee of ministers of the Council of Europe on Tuesday. The sides discussed cooperation between the Council of Europe and other regional European organisations, the Russian Foreign Minister said. According to him, the discussion was aimed at the increase of the effectiveness of the cooperation and the joint building of future European architecture. They also discussed the proposal of the Russian minister to hold the meeting of top officials of the OSCE and the Council of Europe, Valionis said. The results of these consultations are likely to be discussed at the meeting of ministers of the Council of Europe in Vilnius on May 2-3, the Lithuanian Foreign Minister said.
