Representatives of five Caspian states sign communique on developing convention on Caspian legal status

A communique of developing a convention on the Caspian legal status was signed Thursday by representatives of the five Caspian countries.

The Russian Foreign Ministry informed RIA Novosti that the communique was developed on the results of the two-ay session of a special working group on the Caspian at the level of deputy foreign ministers of Russia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenia and Iran.

Deputy foreign minister of Russia Viktor Kalyuzhny reported at the ceremony of signing the joint document that the next session of special working group would be held in Ashgabat late in April. He expressed a hope that the forthcoming meeting would be a final stage in preparing the document for the summit of the Caspian states.

Viktor Kalyuzhny noted that specific work to organise the summit and coordinate the terms of its holding will be led by President Saparmurat Niyazov of Turkmenistan.

Deputy foreign minister of Russia stressed that representatives of all the five Caspian countries showed interest in soonest possible holding of the summit meeting.
