Head of the provisional government of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai left for Rome by air on Monday to hold talks with former king Mohammad Zahir Shah. According to the information of the Saudi news agency SPA, Karzai will return to Kabul on December 20 - on the eve of the ceremony of transfer of power to the provisional government by now president Burhanuddin Rabbani, fixed for December 22. By the conditions of the interAfghan agreement signed in Bonn, the provisional government will rule Afghanistan for six months after which Loya Jirga - the council of elders of tribes, the heads of political and ethnic groupings and theologians - will elect a new government till general elections are held in two years.
