Cabinet Sets To Make Serbia Competitive

One of the next-year priorities of the Serbian government is to make that country competitive on world markets and preserve political stability, Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic said at an international conference devoted to various aspects of the transitional period. According to Djindjic, in the new year the Serbian government will outline a social programme, carry out a state governance reform and reconstruct state-run enterprises. It is also planning to adopt a series of important laws to provide for favourable business environment, he said. One of the crucial goals is to create a pattern of combating graft. Yugoslav Vice-Premier Miroljub Labus noted that the next few years will be the most complicated for Yugoslavia, which will have to carry out privatisation of its industrial sector preserving living standards at a satisfactory level.
