Only the al-Qaeda leaders will be kept as prisoners at the US military base Guantanamo in Cuba. El Nuevo Herald newspaper which is published in the USA in the Spanish language quotes US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense Roger Pardo Maurer as saying in Miami. Last week US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld announced the decision to use the base in Guantanamo for keeping the captive participants of al-Qaeda and the Taliban. Pentagon representatives later confirmed that the military had received an order to prepare places for keeping hundreds of captive militants at the base. As Pardo Maurer noted, if such a decision is taken, the number of prisoners whom we will bring to Cuba from Afghanistan will, most likely, be small. As the US military noted, the decision on where they will face court trials is an exclusive prerogative of president Bush.
