Russian Defence Minister Sergei Ivanov has had a meeting with his visiting counterpart from Kyrgyzstan, Esen Topoyev.
According to the Russian defence ministry's press secretary Nikolai Deryabin, the two ministers discussed deployment of a Russian air base in Kyrgyzstan's Kant airdrome.
In the meantime, Russia's Air Defence Commander Colonel General Vladimir Mikhailov announced that the first 20 planes would arrive in Kyrgyzstan in the second half of April; all in all, the Russian contingent deployed in Kyrgyzstan would consist of up to 500 people.
