Washington does not seek the control over Iraqi oil fields, US Ambassador Alexander Vershbow told RIA Novosti on Thursday.
The Ambassador said that the US realised that the Iraqi oil belonged to the Iraqi people, and it should be used to guarantee security and wellbeing of the country.
Alexander Vershbow said that Washington wanted Iraq to disarm and comply with the UN resolution. The Americans have always hoped Iraq would disarm peacefully, he said. The Ambassador says that a military strike against Iraq will be inevitable if Saddam Hussein fails to disarm and keeps fooling the international community.
