Russia and Tajikistan have a similar understanding of the situation in Afghanistan, said Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov after his meeting with Tajik President Emomali Rakhmonov in Dushanbe on Thursday.
According to Ivanov, although the Afghan transitional government has recently achieved "substantial results" in the solution of political and economic issues, still the situation in the county cannot be considered irreversibly and finally stabilised. Certain forces, both inside and outside Afghanistan, are interested in disrupting this process, the Russian Foreign Minister said.
According to him, Russia and Tajikistan are going to carry on with their support to the Afghan leadership in the solution of the problems the country is facing.
According to the Russian Minister, the situation in Afghanistan and around it will be complicated if a military operation against Iraq is launched.
