A Total of 212 Kilograms of Heroin Confiscated from Drug Dealers

A group of drug dealers has been detained in Tajikistan, with 212 kilograms of heroin withdrawn from them. RIA Novosti was told at the republic's interior ministry that the arrest was made on March 12th by staff workers of the department for the fight against organised crime in the upper reaches of the Varzob river, 60 km north of Dushanbe.

The names of the drug dealers have not been disclosed for investigation security reasons.

The interior ministry pointed out that the drug dealers were detained within the framework of the operation the republic's special services began on February 19th, 2003, when 375 kilograms of heroin were confiscated in the Aininsky district of the Sogdiisk region.

According to head of the interior ministry's department for the fight against organised crime Makhmad Mirzoyev, 733 kilograms of heroin were confiscated during 25 days. The operation continues, he said.
