Finland to 'Give' Consulate to St. Petersburg for 300th Anniversary

Construction of the new Finnish Consulate in Saint Petersburg will begin in three weeks and will take about one and a half years to complete. The Russian Foreign Ministry gave permission to go ahead with construction on Monday, March 3 and gave the consulate diplomatic status.

As a Rosbalt correspondent was informed by the Finnish Foreign Ministry, Skanska East Europe construction company will be responsible for construction of the consulate, which will be located at 4, Preobrazhenskaya Square. The project has been valued at EUR 17 million.

The new consulate will be one of Finland's presents to Saint Petersburg on its 300th anniversary, even though it will not be ready by the time of the city celebrations.
