The EU project Eastern Dimension does not conflict with the Northern Dimension project according to Chairman of the International Committee in the Swedish parliament Urban Alin. While speaking at a meeting of the Baltic Club at the Rosbalt news agency in Saint Petersburg on Saturday March 1, he said that the EU project Eastern Dimension was an excellent idea which the EU can be proud of.
Mr Alin said that the project is still being discussed and it is not yet clear how many countries will be taking part in it. It is expected that the Eastern Dimension project will involve Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova but 'everything could still change.' According to Mr Alin the Eastern Dimension will not be in competition with the Northern Dimension, they will rather compliment each other.'
The project Eastern Dimension was proposed by Poland. As Mr Alin said 'it is good that Poland will play a leading role in the project as it is a large country and has good relations with Ukraine, Belarus and Russia.'
