2,700 of Russian pilgrims have crossed the checkpoints of Russia's southern borders, making their ways to the Moslem shrines of Saudi Arabia. This was disclosed on Thursday by the press service of the Russian Federal Frontier Service in the North Caucasian Department.
The largest flow of pilgrims to Mecca has crossed the "Yarag-Kazmalyar" checkpoint on the Russo-Azerbaijani border in Dagestan. The registration of groups of pilgrims is "conducted in accordance with the schedule and no violations of law by pilgrims crossing the State border has been reported".
Frontier guards speak of good cooperation with North Caucasian muftis, who help to coordinate the work of checkpoints, the press-service reported.
