An informal summit of CIS leaders (commonwealth of independent states) will be held in Kiev on January 27-29. This was announced at a press conference in the Ukrainian capital on Tuesday, January 21, by Press Secretary of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Sergei Borodenkov.
It had earlier been announced that the summit would be held at a ski resort in the Ivano-Frankov Region. According to official sources the location was changed because of the 'undeveloped local infrastructure of the Ivano-Frankov Region', which would be unable to coordinate all the necessary events for such an occasion. Mr Borodenkov said that Kiev is the ideal location for the summit.
At least 10 CIS leaders are expected to attend the informal summit including Russian President Vladimir Putin.
