Gas supplies to Georgia have been interrupted due to an explosion on the "North Caucasus - Transcaucasia" main gas pipeline.
The cause of the accident was gas leakage, the Southern regional center of the Russian Emergencies Ministry reported.
The accident happened on Tuesday, at 4 a.m. in North Ossetia, 1.5 km south of the Verkhny Lars checkpoint on the border with Georgia.
The explosion resulted in fire. The flame height reached 15 meters at times. A rescue team is currently working on the accident site; they are to estimate the time needed for repairs.
The accident caused no casualties, according to the Emergencies Ministry's information.
