Yugoslavian territory Kosovo has the highest unemployment rate in Europe. According to data by the local ministry of labor and social affairs, of one million people able to work, over 57 percent are unemployed.
As Minister Muhamed Gocaj said, 50 percent of people living in the region barely make both ends meet with more 12 percent living below the poverty line. Out of 180,000 families in Kosovo who are in need of social help, only the third of them gets it. The budget lacks funds to help the others. Twenty-two percent of the Kosovo population live rather well and 12 percent are considered to be wealthy.
