Russian, Norwegian and Finnish border guards discuss questions of border cooperation

A conference of Russian, Norwegian and Finnish border guards on the questions of border cooperation opened in Kirkenes (Norway), the press service of the Arctic regional directorate (ARU) of the Federal Frontier Service (FPS) reported on Wednesday.

The results of tripartite cooperation of border guards during 2002 will be summed up at the conference, and the conferees will also discuss the problem of illegal carriage of automobiles across the Russian-Norwegian border.

The presidency of the committee on cooperation between the border agencies of the three countries for the year of 2003 will pass from Norway to Russia.

The Russian delegation is headed by deputy chief of the ARU FPS Major-General Vladimir Chernov, the Finnish - by border commissioner for the Lapland region Colonel Mikko Kirjavainen, and the Norwegian - by chief of the police directorate Eastern Finnmark Kettil Haukaas.
