On Thursday President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev and head of Gazprom Alexei Miller discussed in Astana issues concerning the extraction and transportation of gas from Kazakhstan. After his meeting with Nazarbayev Miller told journalists that KazRosgaz which was set up in June this year by Gazprom and Kazmunaigaz is interested in developing the Karachaganak gas deposit.
Miller hopes that the joint venture would in the future receive a license for the development of a whole series of gas deposits in Kazakhstan.
The Gazprom head also pointed to the good prospects of widening the Central Asia-Centre gas corridor. He said that the question would be discussed by the Kazakhstan-Russian working commission. The expansion of the gas corridor, stressed Miller, could "double the transport capacities of Central Asian gas across the territory of Kazakhstan."
