The European Union is launching a new project within the framework of the TACIS Project aimed at providing technical assistance to Russia in modernizing its primary health care system.
The European Commission Office in Russia has reported that the project called "The Development of Primary Health in Russia based on the Principle of General Practice" aims at creating a solid "family medicine" system in the country.
Within the framework of the project doctors are expected to receive methodical and practical training based on the "family medicine" experience of the EU member countries.
The project with a 3 million euro budget will be carried out till the end of 2004. Russian partners in implementing the project are the Health Ministry and the Moscow Medical Academy named after Sechenov.
