Russian Foreign Ministry hopes interim administration of Afghanistan will help raise the country's economy

Russia in every way supports the interim administration of Afghanistan headed by Hamid Karzai. Official spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry Alexander Yakovenko spoke about this in his interview with RIA Novosti in connection with the coming visit to Moscow by Afghan Foreign Minister Dr. Abdullah.

Moscow hopes, pointed out Alexander Yakovenko, that the interim administration of Afghanistan, with the assistance of the world community, "will create the necessary prerequisites for an economic rise and the development of the social sphere in the country, for the formation of the national armed forces and law-enforcement bodies, and for the establishment of a complete control of the central power in the country." Russia also believes, said Alexander Yakovenko, that the administration, headed by Hamid Karzai, will create the necessary conditions for holding the elections at an appointed time to Loya Jirga which will then adopt a constitution of Afghanistan and establish a state system.

The interim administration of Afghanistan with Hamid Karzai at the head was instituted at the "transitory" Loya Jirga in June for a term of no more than eighteen months.

Dr. Abdullah will pay an official visit to Russia on November 28-29. It is planned to discuss a broad range of issues concerning the current situation in Afghanistan and, in particular, the implementation of the programme for the state and economic development of the country which is being carried out under the aegis of the United Nations.
