SCO stands for adoption of Conventions on Combating International Terrorism and Preventing Acts of Nuclear Terrorism

In their joint communique on the outcome of the meeting of the SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organization) Foreign Ministers' Council, the Council members spoke in favour of adopting a Comprehensive Convention on Combating International Terrorism as well as a Convention on Preventing Acts of Nuclear Terrorism.

The document points out that one of the world community's most vital objectives today is "further consolidation of the international legal base in the current war on terror, including adoption of a Comprehensive Convention on Combating International Terrorism and a Convention on Preventing Acts of Nuclear Terrorism, accompanied by concurrent enhancement of the United Nations' leading role in fighting the new threats of terror".

SCO member states support the world community's efforts to block the channels of financing the terrorist activities and fully accept the provisions of the Declaration on financial measures required for resisting terrorism approved at the ASEAN Regional Forum in July 2002.

In the course of their discussion, members of the Council also pointed out that even with the war on terror assuming a global scale, terrorists continue their activities in various parts of the world, posing a serious threat to the international peace and security. In this connection, the Foreign Ministers unanimously supported the resolute steps taken by the Russian authorities to release the hostages captured by terrorists in Moscow this October. This act of terror caused a heavy death toll of innocent people.
