Foreign ministers of Russia and Tunisia Igor Ivanov and Ben Jahia came out for the coordination of actions in the interests of the political and diplomatic settlement of the situation around Iraq. The heads of the foreign policy departments declared this at the meeting held within the framework of the 57th session of the UN General Assembly. This information was received from official representative of the Russian foreign ministry Alexander Yakovenko.
According to him, the participants in the meeting decided that it is necessary to persistently work for defusing the crisis around the Palestinian territories and resuming the movement towards peace in the Middle East on the basis of the Madrid principles and resolutions 242 and 338 of the UN Security Council. The high-ranking diplomat also reported that when discussing the issues of the Russian-Tunisian relations, the ministers confirmed the mutual striving of the sides to further develop the political dialogue at various levels.
Yakovenko also pointed out that the question of preparing for the second session of the inter-governmental Russian-Tunisian commission on trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation was considered separately.
