Russian and US officials discuss military and political cooperation

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Georgy Mamedov met with US Undersecretaryof State John Bolton in Moscow today, the information and press departmentof the Russian Foreign Ministry reported. During the meeting the partiesconsidered the process of execution of agreements signed by the Russian andUS Presidents in May 2002 and a number of military and political issueswithin the framework of preparations for a meeting of the consultativegroup on strategic security with the participation of the Russian and USDefense and Foreign Ministers, which is to take place in Washington onSeptember 20. Special attention was paid to collaboration in the sphere ofdisarmament and non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and meansof their delivery, strategic stability in respect to Russian-US cooperationin fighting against international terrorism.The parties confirmed their readiness for starting Russian-US negotiationson implementing projects of global partnership against proliferation ofweapons of mass destruction, which was established at the G8 summit inKananaskis, Canada, in July 2002..
