The German embassy to Moscow has expressed its gratitude to Russian citizens "for the most sincere concern and readiness to help they have demonstrated in recent days in connection with the flood in Germany".
"A lot of people from all regions of the Russian Federation offered their help directly or via our embassy," the diplomatic mission reported. "Some people even expressed their readiness to leave for Germany to struggle with the flood and its consequences there, others offered different things and money to the German citizens who had badly suffered in the flood," it pointed out.
"This spontaneous display of solidarity, as well as the rapid and informal assistance of the Russian government were received by the German society with gratitude, taking into account that Russia is still suffering from the consequences of the flood in Novorossiysk," the embassy emphasized.
The catastrophe in Germany has shown how deeply the mutual feelings of friendship and neighbourliness are rooted in the consciousness of our citizens, it believes.
