Georgian Parliament Votes to Quit CIS

By a majority vote, Georgian parliament ruled for the Republic to walk out of the Commonwealth of Independent States. Giya Baramidze, the former head of the parliamentary Committee on Defence and Security, said, 'We must leave the organisation that does not care when we get bombed'.

According to the press service of the UN Association of Georgia, on Monday, the bureau of the parliament discussed several issues, including Georgia's quitting the CIS, the expulsion of Russia's peacemakers from the country, the recalling of Georgia's Ambassador from Moscow, and the cancellation of the republic's contract with the Russian ITERA energy group. The opinions differing sharply, several factions, including the Rebirth and Socialists walked out of the parliament.

According to Jemal Gogitidze, the leader of the Rebirth parliamentary faction, Georgia gets bombed because of the incompetence of President Shevarnadze, the heads of the law enforcement agencies, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs. 'Shevarnadze is paying with Georgian territories for his presidency', he said. However, later that night, the parliament of Georgia adopted a resolution condemning Russia's actions concerning Georgia.
