Vladimir Putin said he openly discusses every issue with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and uses that trust to search for solutions to any problem, according to TASS. He emphasized that their conversations take place in an atmosphere that encourages direct, honest dialogue.
“We have developed an atmosphere that allows us to speak openly and discuss any question. This atmosphere lets us not only talk but also search for solutions to any problem,” he said.
Putin also welcomed Orban’s approach to the conflict in Ukraine, calling it “balanced.”
Viktor Orban told Vladimir Putin during their Kremlin meeting that Hungary stands ready to host negotiations aimed at resolving the conflict in Ukraine, TASS reported. He noted that Hungary feels the consequences of the conflict more directly than many other European states.
“Ukraine is Hungary’s neighbor. Because of that, Hungary fully senses the impact of the Ukrainian conflict,” he said.
Orban stressed that Budapest wants peace and hopes that recently announced peace initiatives will lead toward it.
At their meeting, Vladimir Putin described current Russian–Hungarian relations as grounded in pragmatism and the most constructive elements of their historical ties. He said their governments now focus on practical cooperation and the long-term development of bilateral relations.
“We know our history includes different periods, but today our relations rely on the best parts of that experience and on a pragmatic approach to developing bilateral ties,” Putin stated.
The meeting also included participation from senior officials: Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Presidential Aide Yury Ushakov, and Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak from the Russian side, and Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto from the Hungarian side.
