Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has confirmed that a new round of negotiations with the Russian side will take place on Wednesday, July 23. The announcement was made via the Telegram channel of the Interfax-Ukraine news agency.
"Today I discussed preparations for the exchange and another meeting in Turkey with the Russian side together with Rustem Umerov. Umerov reported that the meeting is scheduled for Wednesday," Zelensky stated.
According to RBK-Ukraine, Zelensky emphasized that the central topic for Kyiv will be the return of prisoners. He also stressed that a true resolution to the conflict can only be achieved at the level of a summit between national leaders.
"Only a meeting between leaders can deliver real results in ending this conflict," Zelensky said, urging ambassadors to promote this negotiation strategy globally.
Zelensky further requested that Ukrainian diplomats continue rallying international support and conveying the importance of high-level talks with Russia.
Earlier, the Ukrainian president spoke about ongoing efforts to secure military supplies. He noted that he expects a detailed report within ten days from National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov on the status and timelines of various defense agreements.
Prior to that, Zelensky had issued a series of directives to new Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal, naming the training of interceptor drone operators as one of the top priorities for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
