“Ali Larijani, acting as the President’s special envoy, conveyed a message and outlined the Islamic Republic of Iran’s views on regional development, international affairs, and bilateral relations,” Baghaei stated.
According to the diplomat, the Kremlin talks were constructive and covered a broad range of strategic issues.
The meeting between Putin and Larijani took place on July 20 in Moscow. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov noted that the Iranian representative conveyed his government's assessment of the deteriorating situation in the Middle East and the state of Iran’s nuclear program.
Meanwhile, Tehran has announced a trilateral meeting between representatives of Russia, Iran, and China, scheduled for Tuesday, July 22. According to Baghaei, the primary agenda will include Iran’s nuclear program and threats from the European trio (France, Germany, UK) to trigger the UN Security Council's snapback mechanism, which would reinstate sanctions on Iran.
The meeting comes shortly after the enforcement of the Treaty on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Iran and Russia. Iranian Ambassador to Moscow Kazem Jalali confirmed that the agreement has been ratified into law in both countries.
The treaty, signed on January 17, 2025, commits Moscow and Tehran to deepening cooperation in all areas of mutual interest, from security and energy to diplomatic and technological collaboration.
