Ukrainian First Deputy Prime Minister Oleg Dubina, who is now on an official visit in Malaysia, opened the Embassy of Ukraine at a ceremony in Kuala Lumpur.
In reply, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia Syed Hamid Albar said that the Malaysian diplomatic mission in Kiev would be opened at the beginning of 2003. The minister explained the delay by the fact that by the end of this year his country opens embassies in another four states.
The Malaysian Foreign Minister reminded the audience about the intention of the two countries to set up an inter-governmental commission with the aim of expanding trade and economic relations and also said that in 2003 the Malaysian Prime Minister would visit Ukraine.
At the concluded negotiations the sides expressed their readiness to develop cooperation in science, technology, military industries and in education.
