Russia Suggests Special Meeting of UN Security Council Concerning Sanctions Against Iraq

Russia is suggesting the UN Security Council have a special meeting to discuss sanctions against Iraq. The problem on hand concerns the financing of the Oil for Food special humanitarian program the UN has set up for Iraq. What is constantly practiced is back-pricing of oil Iraq supplies. This is according to the Department of Communications and Information of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia.

Russian delegation in the UN intends 'to decisively demand that the back-pricing policy be abolished and the prices be set before oil is supplied'.

The other issue the delegation of Russia intends to discuss is discriminatory criteria existing for the buyers of Iraq's oil, which results in violated contracts concerning the supplies of humanitarian cargoes to Iraq and may become the reason for the disruption of the whole humanitarian program.
