On Saturday Rear-Admiral Muhammad Abrahim Dekhani, head of the Iranian delegation of observers at the exercises carried out by Russia in the Caspian Sea stated to RIA Novosti that he did not associate the exercises with the Caspian sea delineation problem.
At the same time, he did not exclude Iran's participation in similar future exercises if the "Iranian leadership considers it appropriate." Nevertheless, according to him, full-scale exercises in the Caspian Sea "might be conducive to militarisation of the Caspian Sea which all the littoral states should avoid." The Admiral stated that "the Caspian sea should be a region of peace and friendship."
