New banknotes with improved protective qualities are to come into circulation in Kirghizia on August 15, reports the National bank. These banknotes, issued in 2002, with a denomination of 25, 50 and 100 Soms will be introduced gradually to substitute the old money issued in 1994-1995.
"Fresh" banknotes are better protected but differ slightly from the old ones in colour and size.
The National Bank assures that the old and new banknotes will be accepted on a par across all the territory of the republic. Banknotes with a denomination of one, five and ten Soms will remain intact.
